Pretzel Pizza Bites

I love a good soft pretzel every now and then. I mean, who doesn’t love that warm and fluffy goodness? Now combine that with pizza and the taste is one of a kind!
Ever since I found out how to make soft pretzels at home, it was amazing. The taste was WAY better than those frozen ones in the box that you buy from the store.
Since then, we’ve been experimenting with our pretzels to see what kind of variations we could make. And this turned out to be my favorite variation yet! They’re like a pizza roll but even better with that soft pretzel taste.
The yeast I used to make this dough was Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust Yeast. Normally, we would only use this yeast to make pizza crusts but we found out that it works great for this recipe as well. So if you wish to make this recipe, I would definitely recommend using this.
This is an appetizer or snack that your friends and family are going to love! So let’s get started with this tasty Pizza Pretzel Bites!

Pizza Pretzel Bites
For the Dough
  1. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra if necessary)
  2. 1 packet Pizza Crust Yeast
  3. 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  4. 3/4 tsp. salt
  5. 2/3 cup very warm water
  6. 3 tbsp. olive oil
  7. Shredded mozzarella cheese
  8. Melted butter
For the Baking Soda Wash
  1. 8 cups water
  2. 1/3 cup baking soda
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt. Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until the dough is well blended.
  2. Gradually add enough of the remaining flour until the dough is formed into a soft ball. Dough will be slightly sticky.
  3. Knead for a few minutes on a floured surface until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide dough into 16 one-inch balls.
  5. Whisk the 8 cups of water and baking soda in a large pot and bring to a boil. Place a dough ball onto a slotted spatula and dip into the boiling water for about 30 seconds on each side. Don't keep them in the water for too long, as they will end up having a metallic taste! Repeat with your remaining dough balls.
  6. Melt butter and brush it onto the balls. Sprinkle on shredded mozzarella cheese and italian seasoning.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes with the oven at 425 degrees or until golden brown.
  8. Allow them to cool and enjoy
